Carlo Zappella: Digital Doubles
25 March - 6 May 2026
HORIZONT Gallery, Budapest
**Digital Doubles** explores the fascinating dialogue between analog and digital imagery. Witness stunning renderings and photographs alongside sculptures – mirroring moments from VFX where cameras seamlessly transition to digital doubles. The interplay between authenticity and fiction is heightened through the deliberate alternation of photography and 3D renderings. The goal is to express the feeling of "breaking the fourth wall" – that moment in theater or film where the production consciously acknowledges the audience through direct address.
Carlo Zappella, born in Vienna in 1995, studied Fine Art Photography at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He received his diploma in summer 2025 under Gabriele Rothemann. His interests center on the artistic process itself and exploring perception and reality. His work combines various media such as photography, 3D rendering, sculpture, or video, aiming to stimulate reflection on the self within a broader context.
Zappella's recently had his first solo show at Stadtgalerie Raumimpuls (2026 Feb), and was part of group exhibitions at Delphi Space (2025), Projektraum Viktor Bucher (2025) and at the Angewandte Festival (2023, 2024). He was featured in P.IN.E.A Periodical (2025), Fotohof Calling (2024), and Eikon Magazine (2023). Zappella's work has been supported by a BMWKMS Startstipendium (Federal Young Artist Grant) (2025).
